Experts have warned that violent gangs are now an ’embedded’ part of our culture.
This comes after six people were stabbed in the capital in just seven days.
This embedding of gang violence in our culture is strongly illustrated by the recent rise in knife crime. Indeed, studies show that this has increased by 14% year on year in 2016 to levels not seen since 2011.
Commenting on this surge, well respected professor David Wilson said “Without any shadow of a doubt, gangs have always been present in the periphery as a phenomenon of our culture. But I would say they are now very much embedded in the culture in our towns and cities.”
